TZM Alloy: material & procurement overview

TZM is a molybdenum-based alloy containing titanium, zirconium and carbon. It is considered when a design requires stronger high-temperature behaviour and improved creep resistance relative to pure molybdenum. Our brochure and rod materials include TZM forms; the chemistry, condition and finished geometry are specified for the order.

Thermal load with mechanical duty

Consider TZM when the part must retain its function under temperature and load; define both in the enquiry.

Carbide-strengthened system

Titanium, zirconium and carbon distinguish TZM chemistry from unalloyed molybdenum.

Form and condition

Rod, plate and finished parts can require different processing states and property documentation.

Reference basis: Published molybdenum-alloy reference. These values or composition examples describe the material family. They are not guaranteed values for every delivered grade or finished component.

A typical TZM composition is not a universal delivered specification. Mechanical values, recrystallization behaviour and service suitability depend on the material state, atmosphere, temperature and loading history.

Applications & design inputs

Multi-level fixture rack for thermal processing
Thermal-process fixture from our company materials. Geometry example only; specify TZM grade, loading and thermal conditions for your project.

Connect the material choice to the finished component: identify the process, contact surfaces, operating conditions and critical assembly interfaces.

Use the examples below to prepare a drawing-based enquiry. Final material suitability and achievable geometry are reviewed for your project.

Loaded furnace parts

Supports, fixtures and other specified thermal components need load, atmosphere and cycle details.

Forming-tool enquiries

Provide contact material, mechanical duty and drawing details before selecting the grade and treatment.

Machined material blanks

State machining allowance, final geometry and any material-state requirements.

Tell us which surfaces contact the process, which dimensions control fit, and what documentation the project requires. An application example is a starting point for a specification; final suitability is reviewed against your actual conditions.

From your drawing to an agreed manufacturing scope

01 · Define — Send the grade, drawing and function, with unknown details clearly marked.
02 · Review — Discuss geometry, processing, surface condition and critical inspection requirements.
03 · Agree — Confirm quotation scope, documentation, packaging and delivery requirements before production.
Our material range and manufacturing photographs support drawing-based project enquiries. Achievable dimensions, material properties and inspection scope are reviewed for the actual grade and part; the photographs do not define a fixed stock item.

TZM Alloy procurement questions

Is TZM a high-purity grade of pure molybdenum?

No. TZM is a defined molybdenum alloy system. Its alloying additions should be specified through the agreed grade or material standard.

Can you quote non-standard forms and dimensions?

Send your drawing or initial dimensions, material grade, quantity and component function. We review the required geometry and finishing together. State whether you need a material blank or a finished component.

Do the reference values define the delivered specification?

No. Use the exact grade and agreed order requirements. Tell us which material tests and inspection records you need so their scope and acceptance criteria can be included in the quotation.
