Molybdenum-Lanthanum: material & procurement overview

MoLa is commonly used as a name for molybdenum containing a dispersed lanthanum-oxide addition. It is different from pure molybdenum and from carbide-strengthened TZM. The selected oxide content and manufacturing route influence the material structure and its high-temperature behaviour. Our materials include MoLa rods, wire and thermal applications.

Microstructure for thermal duty

Oxide dispersion and processing route matter when discussing creep and thermal-cycle requirements.

Not the same as TZM

MoLa and TZM use different strengthening systems. Match the material to the equipment specification.

Custom forms and interfaces

A rod, wire and furnace part require different dimensional, surface and assembly inputs.

Material properties & grade reference

Property / specificationReference or selectionProcurement meaning
Material systemMolybdenum with dispersed lanthanum oxideSpecify oxide content and grade; do not assume a simple metallic La addition
Published oxide-content examples0.3 or 0.7 wt% La₂O₃General material examples, not the complete BOMO grade range
Delivered conditionSpecified by orderWorked, stress-relieved or other requested state affects the material
Density / mechanical valuesGrade and condition dependentUse an agreed grade data sheet or required test report
Product dimensionsDrawing-basedDefine section size, length, form and critical tolerances

Reference basis: Published molybdenum-alloy reference. These values or composition examples describe the material family. They are not guaranteed values for every delivered grade or finished component.

Published oxide-content examples explain the material family. The final MoLa composition, condition and acceptance requirements are agreed for the project; the rod photograph illustrates form rather than proving a particular oxide content.

Applications & design inputs

Multi-level heat-treatment fixture
Heat-treatment fixture from our brochure. Material, oxide-dispersion content and service conditions are defined separately for a MoLa enquiry.

Connect the material choice to the finished component: identify the process, contact surfaces, operating conditions and critical assembly interfaces.

Use the examples below to prepare a drawing-based enquiry. Final material suitability and achievable geometry are reviewed for your project.

Furnace hardware

Define shield, support, fixture or heating-component geometry and the thermal environment.

Wire & rod requirements

Specify diameter, length, straightness, delivered state and the finished component role.

Thermal-process assemblies

Provide load, joining details and atmosphere for a grade-specific review.

Tell us which surfaces contact the process, which dimensions control fit, and what documentation the project requires. An application example is a starting point for a specification; final suitability is reviewed against your actual conditions.

From your drawing to an agreed manufacturing scope

01 · Define — Send the grade, drawing and function, with unknown details clearly marked.
02 · Review — Discuss geometry, processing, surface condition and critical inspection requirements.
03 · Agree — Confirm quotation scope, documentation, packaging and delivery requirements before production.
Our material range and manufacturing photographs support drawing-based project enquiries. Achievable dimensions, material properties and inspection scope are reviewed for the actual grade and part; the photographs do not define a fixed stock item.

Molybdenum-Lanthanum procurement questions

Does MoLa always contain the same lanthanum-oxide percentage?

No. Specify the required grade and oxide content, or send your design requirements for review. A generic MoLa name does not establish one chemistry or material state.

Can you quote non-standard forms and dimensions?

Send your drawing or initial dimensions, material grade, quantity and component function. We review the required geometry and finishing together. State whether you need a material blank or a finished component.

Do the reference values define the delivered specification?

No. Use the exact grade and agreed order requirements. Tell us which material tests and inspection records you need so their scope and acceptance criteria can be included in the quotation.
